Their work blends documentary and fiction to critically explore gender, power structures, culture, and tradition. Through resisting and reframing oppressive narratives, Bunsermvicha challenges prescribed norms and systems that attempt to control and define individual and collective bodies. Their films seek to offer a more layered and fluid understanding of how interconnected we are, opening up possibilities for intimacy, agency, and freedom.
Bunsermvicha’s films have been shown in Southeast Asia and abroad, including Locarno, Rotterdam, MoMA’s Doc Fortnight, Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, Clermont-Ferrand, IndieLisboa, SGIFF, and SeaShorts. Their works have been presented and exhibited at distinguished institutions, such as Conversations at the Edge (Chicago), Le Fresnoy (France), Barbican Centre (London), and EMAP (South Korea). Their films have won several awards and special mentions from Thailand, Singapore, India, Spain, Italy, Russia, and the United States.
Since 2015, Bunsermvicha has contributed to the growth of independent cinema in Southeast Asia. They managed SEAFIC’s script-development lab and developed workshops, events, and research initiatives at Purin Pictures. As a producer, they have produced and co-produced several short films, feature films, and video art projects. Most recently, they co-initiated Rae–Nang, a cinema cooperative that repurposes a vacant public space in Bangkok as a collectively run, volunteer-led, non-commercial cinema.
Bunsermvicha is a graduate of Brown University’s department of Modern Culture and Media. They are an alum of Berlinale Talents, Locarno Open Doors Lab, Locarno Filmmakers Academy, and CHANEL X BIFF Asian Film Academy.
